‘There is a great deal of data to show the effectiveness of non-pharmaceutical interventions,’ Hinshaw said

Alberta’s chief medical officer of health acknowledged Tuesday that the measures taken to combat the COVID-19 pandemic affected individual rights.

But Dr. Deena Hinshaw told a hearing challenging her public health orders that the measures were a “last resort” necessary to protect individuals from the coronavirus and maintain the viability of the health-care system.

Under cross-examination by lawyer Leighton Grey, one of two counsel representing parties challenging the constitutionality of Hinshaw’s orders, the doctor said such measures were needed when voluntary compliance didn’t prevent the spread of the disease.

“With many of the health orders you made you knew, the Government of Alberta knew, that they were limiting or restricting individual freedoms . . . isn’t that so?” Grey asked.

“The last resort was to restrict those freedoms when the ability to mitigate the risk that COVID posed to the population was not possible with the . . . voluntary means that had previously been employed,” Hinshaw said.

“So does that not support my assertion about the hierarchy of values that the Government of Alberta had, that dealing with COVID the public health issue was more important than the individual personal freedoms in the context of COVID-19,” Grey said.

“At the time where the health-care system was under significant threat of becoming overwhelmed, then clearly the decisions that were made were to limit some personal freedoms in order to both protect the health-care system and minimize the severe outcomes for the good of the whole population,” Hinshaw said.

“So in those specific moments of time where the threat was significant and rising, then again, very specific freedoms were limited for that purpose of protecting the population as a whole.”

Grey, who represents two churches challenging Hinshaw’s orders, and lawyer Jeffrey Rath, who represents three individuals, want Justice Barbara Romaine to find the measures violated individual Charter rights and should be declared of no force and effect.

Such a ruling could limit any future measures the province might consider if a sixth wave of the pandemic starts to overwhelm the health-care system.

Even if the Court of Queen’s Bench judge finds the orders violated individual rights, she could still rule they were justified in the circumstances of the pandemic.

Grey suggested Hinshaw’s opinion that the non-pharmaceutical interventions she ordered — such as masking requirements and restrictions on public gatherings, including religious services — saved lives wasn’t supported by evidence.

“There really isn’t any data to support that, is there?” Grey said.

“I would disagree with that. There is a great deal of data to show the effectiveness of non-pharmaceutical interventions,” Hinshaw said.

Her testimony is expected to continue.

  1. The so-called ‘Health Care System’ long ago became a ‘death care blueprint’ to manage, and even encourage, early death. Think ‘abortion’. Think ‘assisted suicide’. Think ‘unlimited once illegal drugs’. Think ‘illicit behavior’ as in prostitution and pedophilia. Think ‘unprotected sex’. I have not in my 66yrs on earth heard so much filth and stupidity out of the mouths of supposedly literate and even educated persons as I hear today from ‘Officers of Health’ and ‘Prime Ministers’ who spew vomit pretending them to be words of wisdom. Sad, and strange, that so many of these supposedly intelligent people are women, or men trying to take the place of women.
The gentler sex, who once bought forth life, now bring forth death in their twisted, demented, demonic and perverse logic of dealing with sickness through unreasonable restraints on the living, especially the young.
We certainly should take care of the sick and dying while not neglecting nor assaulting the living. The Governments of Canada, from Municipal and Provincial through to the Federal, and their fascist International Consortium’s, now prosecute an agenda of death.
Can we reasonably boycott everything? I think we are going to have to.
I bought my seeds, and today I got my soil. Or, is that my soul? I have my dehydrator and lots more empty jars. I won’t starve. Not yet!
The only way to starve the governments into submission is to cut off their taxes. Voting just does not work. Nor does the government!

  2. If Hinshaw and ALL of so called medical professionals allowed the use of Hydroxychloroquin and Ivermectin, two cheap effective medications with a long history, there would not have been any need for masks, distancing and injections. The Canadian Medical Association and all those associated with banning these two medications need to be held accountable! They new better but ignored tried and true effective treatments. Disgusting and Criminal!

  3. Fair and balanced reporting is a goal not of mainstream media. Here’s some balance in all fairness:

And as Unacceptable Jessica writing for SubStack points out:

On the subject of excess deaths of youths, enter Edward Dowd. He is an interesting fellow. He was a portfolio manager for the multinational investment firm BlackRock and a former analyst and Wall Street executive. We spoke at a meeting together not long ago. He has more recently spoken about the young deaths in a very specific way: in the context of the Vietnam War.

The Millennials, about ages 25 to 40, experienced an 84% increase in excess mortality in the fall, he said, describing it as the “worst-ever excess mortality, I think, in history.” It was the highest increase in excess deaths of any age group last year, seven times higher than the Silent Generation, those who are older than 85.

And the increase coincided with the vaccine mandates and the approval of the booster shots. “Basically, Millennials experienced a Vietnam War in the second half of 2021,” Dowd said, noting 58,000 people died in the conflict.

And as the latest in a thread of possible Celebrity injuries and causalities from the mRNA vaccine, 67-year-old Bruce Willis’ recent announcement of aphasia ending his career has doctors immediately ruling out the vaccine as causal, regardless of the many COVID vaccine recipients reporting brain fog and a failure to concentrate after taking the vaccine. Meanwhile, the VAERS data shows 3,057 cases where Aphasia is a symptom due to the COVID-19 vaccine.

Heaven help us get through all of this with some humans surviving our own stupidity.
